Stumbles and pickups

So, on Friday the wife had surgery...everything went as planned, however from my standpoint, I snacked pretty poorly all day. Breakfast was an omelet, lunch I had a salad, but added a cookie and when the wife got out and was moving around we went and had Chinese food (sweet & sour pork, fried rice, fried noodles and fried shrimp). Pretty bad day.

Saturday wasn't much better, I had 3 pieces of pizza and felt so bad about it that I didn't eat anymore.

Sunday, I had a "slim fast" in the morning, sandwich in the afternoon I had sushi at a sushi bar...didn't eat too much too, but I did have a serving of calamari.

Although my diet has been up and down and my weight hasn't moved, I did have a bit of encouragement on Saturday, by shaving 31 seconds off my mile time as compared to Monday's run and 36 seconds off of my original time. Today, I've had a Subway club w/ a diet coke and later on had a slim fast...I have no clue what I'm doing for dinner, but I'll make sure to tone it down as compared to the last few days and try to gain some stability.

Running short on time.

From Monday:

I got about ten minutes to post...but today's gone well. I had a turkey bacon/egg white sandwich breakfast sandwich in the morn with my latte, a turkey sandwich with a sugar free pudding for lunch and a lean cuisine pizza and a can of soup for dinner.

I ran short on working out, buy my times were a little better. One thing I want to know is some exercises for my legs and gluts. Squatting scares me! LOL. Although, I won't be doing that for a few days, as I tweeked my left calf :-( Should be fine...you won't catch me sitting on the sideline looking like a sad Darth Vader :-p

Tail Between My Legs

So, there's probably no one left to view my blog, as anyone who ever skimmed it before noticed that I fell off the face of the earth. My big ass fell pretty hard too. I essentially gave up. After Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, I found myself where most people do: 10 lbs. chubbier.

During this time, I was given plate full of cookies, bowls full of candy, beer and other plates of various sweets. Of course, I took it...not their fault for giving it out, it was a nice gesture.

It was a few days before Christmas when I was sitting at my desk, gnawing on a cookie when I realized I can't keep going like this. I could feel my ass getting wider as I sit at work...A co-worker of mine had started up working out like a machine and I noticed that she was a little more energetic at work and said she'd shed a pants' size. The surprising part is that she didn't change much in her eating habits! That part still baffles me. I digress though.

So, to fast-forward to now, the last month or so, I've kept a close watch on my diet and started working out a few weeks ago. I'm back at square one, weighing a still hefty 300 even. I haven't been counting calories, but I've been able to eat in a way that I think is sensible. Some examples have been eating breakfast which consist of usually eating a bowl of oatmeal, a granola bar w/ some "Slimfast," or some toast w/ a reasonable amount of pbj. Lunches are usually a turkey sandwich or a can of Progresso's "Healthy Choice" soups. Dinner really varies, of course, but the best I've done is a chicken breast, rice and some steamed veggies. The worst I've done is two pieces of Hawaiian pizza and a bottle of beer.

So, the component that was missing my last go around at weight loss was exercise. I've been putting an hour or so into my schedule 3-4x's a week to work out. It's nice that work has a facility and showers for a mere $5/mo! What I've been doing is hitting the treadmill for 20 mins, doing 3 sets of 8-12 reps on three different types of weights and finishing off with a steady incline on the elliptical machine for 25-30 mins. This is where I want to improve. I really want to push it to 30 mins on the treadmill, but damn, by the time 20 mins comes around, I'm done! The sad thing is, I'm not even running the entire time... :(

I have been trying to keep track of my mile time. It's an encourager for when I'm not seeing a difference in my weight. Ultimately, I could care less of how I look physically, but rather how I feel and am able to endure physically challenging situations (like climbing up a trail without stopping and telling others to go ahead), physical looks is just a big plus for me...that and not shopping in the fat guy section.

I'll include my weight and times each time I post, which I'll keep up to 1-2 times a week.

Those are:
300.5 lbs.
12:50 mile time.

Lost...in a few ways.

Alright, alright...Rob called me out today. I was making my routine visit on Rotokingdom, mainly checking up on what folks had to say about the moves the Yankees are making (and the lack there of with Alex and Torre...Don't get me started.) and I get this message in my pm box: "Hey, how's the weight loss thing going? Two blogs and you disappear ;)"

I haven't disappeared folks, I promise. In fact, I'm a little lost right now...I'm looking through my comments from the Marcol's, the Jim's, the Kristen's and I don't know how to add these nice people to the side like I see on their blogs. I also don't know how to add pics to the side as well. Can someone point me out in the right direction?

Finally, I'm a little lost in that I don't see any production at all. I mean I'm still at 304 and I have cut out a lot of food in my diet. A lot less breads, a lot less sweets and added more salads. I know I should exercise more than wandering around late at night with the wife (we go for a walk about 3-4 times a week...roughly 30 blocks, give or take). I may be able to account my lack of success to a few bumps. On Saturday, the wife and I went on a kind of mini-date. Took her out to some shops around "Bridgeport Village," which included lunch (a turkey club on sourdough and fries), a trip to get some ice cream (that'd be a rocky road mess...rocky road ice cream, oreo cookies, whip cream, hot fudge...I'm pretty certain I saw a kitchen sink in there as well...) and finally buttery popcorn while watching Saw IV (awesome, by the way...up until the confusing ending...gonna have to see it again.). Also, on Friday and Sunday, the wife and I went to the local watering hole and drank various adult beverages (mine included several bud lights, a diet coke and Cuervo Black, and a Long Island), and bar food :( (chicken/swiss on a bun w/ fries and a chicken wrap w/ ranch and w/ fries...damn fries.).

I had tried to find redemption though. Yesterday included a six inch subway club, a salad (chicken breast, fat free ranch, crutons and a little shredded cheese), and a second salad with turkey, crutons and low fat blue cheese. I just got to continue on that and get some exercise in...

Early Failure: A crash course in half-assing.

So, I get up today, motiated...excited even, because I've planned on taking my bike to work (I'm a security guard on the weekends) so I can bike around the site, instead of driving or walking. Sounds like its good for your health, right?

Well...Yeah, I've done that and have been doing that. I've pedaled around for about 60 mins of my shift thus far (another 4 hours to go), but I've also ingested 2200 cals, 150 grams of fat, 50 grams of which was saturated fat...Its tough to find food on the go.

But that might be my downfall. When I was at my diet's worst, I would be going to college, volunteering as a police cadet and working...Breakfast would be whatever I could scrape togther at Starbucks, lunch would be something deep fried and grilled in between classes, dinner would be whatever comes on a bun so I could either carry it in the car to a call or I could take to work with 0 preparation.

Now I'm back in the same boat...I work full time, intern and work another 24 hours...back to grabbing food and not preparing it.

Suggestions? Is there quick healthy stuff out there or should I suck it up and find some time?

The Introduction: Declaration of Intent.

Ladies and gentlemen...I've come to this blogger because of advise from a friend of mine from another site. This guy has done and is still doing what a lot of people want to do, but can't accomplish: weight loss. But dude didn't drop 10 or 20 lbs...no, 100 lbs! I'd suggest you all take a look at his thoughts at http://www.icanseemytoes.blogspot.com .

It's my intent to do something simular. I haven't put a hard number on it yet, but right now I'm 6'1", 304 lbs and a 46" waist. I want to get down into the 30's for that waist size, I know that much. Things are so damn more abundant and cheaper in the normal sizes...damn normies! As far as weight...what, 220 lbs? That should be a 38 waist, isn't it?

Anyhow, I'm not quite sure how to go about do it. Right now, I'm trying to keep my calories under control...I realize that my calorie intake should be under 2000, and I should get at least an hour's worth of exercise in as well.
For right now, I'm using a calorie counter on my pda/phone to keep me honest but my God! How the hell do you keep yourself in check when folks are bringing in candy, cookies, cakes, buckets of sugary lard, etc into offices all over America to tempt folks from now until New Years?! Also, I work 68 hours a week and work at an internship 8 hours a week...how can I squeeze exercise in there?!

Basically America, I need direction. Give it to me.
